Just to say before you read your sign readings, that if you look at the evening sky through the winter months you will see Mercury, Venus and Saturn in the Western horizon, setting after the Sun. They shine so beautifully and give us the experience that the ancient priest-kings had when they began to note down their stellar observations thousands of years ago.

That is, of course, provided you have clear skies. Here in Scotland we have had cloudy skies for nearly 2 years now - I have seen the Moon about half a dozen times in the last 2 years - so I certainly can’t see the wonder of the planets setting.  

Happy Birthday Virgo 

I imagine that Virgos have been feeling pretty hard done by since last summer (2007) with Saturn, the planet of structure and reality checks entering your sign for his 30 month visit. Earthy Virgo is THE sign of perfectionism and minimalism and you can feel quite happy with some reality - however, there does come a point when it all gets a bit in your face. 

So for early Virgos ( 23 August - 5th September) who have been going through it all over the last 9 months - throwing out the old stuff and not quite sure where you’re heading - that’s all rather perfect for you, really. And, happily it’s over for another thirty years or so. Now it’s a new fresh start that you can begin to put in place. It is often suggested that this transit (passage) of Saturn over the Sun can signal a period of greatest success - but it is hard won - and totally your own making. So congratulations!

For mid-Virgos (5th - 15th September) this year is a real roller coaster ride. Saturn is making demands that you seriously look at the things that no longer serve your long term goals and start the process of letting them go. You may not wish to throw them out completely yet, but you will have done that by next August, 09. And then a brand new thirty year cycle will begin - a bit like being reborn, I guess.

This puts huge emphasis on negotiation, and cooperation in all your relationships - both business and personal - and it will put you in good stead for the future in your profession. It’s hard for Aries to be a good team player but you have to bite the bullet and do it this month, for your own sake. You may find that one of your colleagues seems to have a down on you and you need to use some diplomacy to put it right.

However, you are the stronger one here and will easily overcome any challenges thrown at you. You may be asked to take a course in some practical subject as well, in order that you really understand the deeper workings of your business.

Happy Birthday, Leo

With Friday’s Total Solar Eclipse it’s quite a momentous birthday that will have significance for Leos through the next 6-12 months. It’s a funny thing the way the planets whizz around the Zodiac, sometimes regularly and predictably and sometimes quite erratically. This eclipse is more on the erratic side of things, and I’ll explain more below.

Usually, we can trace an Eclipse on the same degree of the Zodiac every 19 years - for Saros Cycle fans, this is something Zodiacal rather than Nodal. However, occasionally we get a rogue eclipse that doesn’t fit that particular pattern - a little Cosmic Joke, perhaps, who knows? And there’s probably a technical explanation that I once knew and have since forgotten - sorry about that, but forgetting things happens as we get older!!

Eclipses tend to repeat in the same sign for about eleven and a half months - so we usually get two hits in the same sign over a year. Not this time, however - the next one in July 2009 falls in Cancer. So this is a one off, folks, peculiar to Leo on 1st August - no wonder the Chinese are claiming it as their very own Olympic Eclipse! Incidentally, the shadow cast across the Earth by the Moon covering the Sun, falls across Northern Russia and China, where it terminates. This is how we can often predict earthquakes and political disturbances for a nation by tracing the Eclipse’s shadow and seeing which nations it covers. I feel another article coming up - later, I promise!

An eclipse usually leaves its effects over a period of about 6-12 months, over which time many of the predictions are likely to pan out - things like babies being born, older people leaving, creative ventures being launched, money being made and even lost. A time of rich pickings. An eclipse effects us all no matter which sign it falls in and we will respond to it differently each according to our birth signs.

Aries : 21st March - 20th April

The eclipse falls in your 5th house of creativity, children and romance. If your children are teenagers, they may decide to leave home or go to college that requires many short journeys for you all. If they have already left, be prepared, they may come back for a while and again need you to help them put their futures in better order. Your daily routines could be changed as a result. You may acquire new neighbours who could challenge your domestic peace and quiet for a time, by doing a make-over, for example. A co-worker could cause more work to be put on your shoulders by, for example, going on maternity leave or something similar. In the romance department, if there’s no one on the horizon, then this may change over the next few months, because you’re giving off good energy.

The changeable, fluid and powerful Moon is your sign ruler and it is her phases that fill in the smaller details of your life. The bigger changes in your life are reflected in the movement of the slower moving planets. 

Over the last few years, life has been bowling along quite nicely for you - although with Saturn paying Cancer a visit from 2003-05 things were pretty tough. However, in the grand scheme of things you learned a lot about independence and selfhood, which is no bad thing, as Cancerians can often be dependent souls. Just to confuse things, however, in the middle of the same period i.e. 2004, Uranus the planet of changes and disruption was smiling at you across the Universe from Pisces, offering you exciting new possibilities - and that’s still going on for about 3 more years from now. How good is that?

This is a good year for you, then, filled with confidence boosting and a real sense of getting somewhere in life - can’t be bad.

This month’s New Moon focuses on you - if you have something to put out into the world around this time (3rd July) then this would be a good time to do it. For those whose birthday falls around this period, then you are really stepping foot into a year of new beginnings.

Family matters are in your face this month, which may just get in the way of your own personal interests. You will need to put up and shut up at least for a couple of weeks, by which time help will be at hand. If you own your property, you may decide to build an office or some other kind of extension. Your career has been going well for you this year, with Jupiter in your Solar 10th House - maybe not giving you results as quickly as you would like - but it really is a case of slow and steady winning the race - and that could be you, Aries!

Taurus: 19th April - 20th May

A good period for you to get out and about exploring your neighbourhood, socialising with neighbours, siblings and other family members. There will be a lot of paperwork to get through as well, this month - could you have been leaving it until you felt enthused enough to get it done? Well, that time has arrived and you’ll likely be surprised by how easily it gets done. If you have to take your driving test, either practical or written then this is a good time. In a very un-Taurus like manner you may be scattering your energies to much - behaving more like a Gemini in fact. Yes, there may be important decisions to be made, but you could just take time out to study your options and go for it. Your children may be filling the house with too many friends when all you want to do is have time to yourself.

Gemini: 20th May - 20th June

This is the month for looking at your finances - both your income and outgoings. You may find that your partner is wanting to make a large purchase that requires a mortgage or bank loan - just make sure you define your boundaries clearly so that you don’t end up having to make all the payments. This could be a good month to start some saving plan or budget. You could also look at your gifts and talents this month - maybe there’s something deep down you’ve always wanted to do, and maybe were good at as a child. Well, this New Moon could offer you a way of finding the courage to go and do it - or at least check out ways of developing it into a skill later on in the year. Talent always demands that it gets expressed one way or another - and it could be now for you.

Happy Birthday, Gemini!

Geminis have been going through a most interesting few years, since early in the century, really. With Uranus going through Pisces since 2003 and challenging your every idea about yourself, your purpose and your life’s path, you can be sure that you will renewed on many different levels of your life by the end of the period in 2011. So early Geminis made the changes at the beginning of the cycle and now it’s late Geminis (10th-21st June) that are doing so for the next 3 years. 

These challenges fall mainly in the career and home areas of your life - career changes that say more about who you really are and a home makeover that expresses your inner values - don’t get stressed about any of this, just learn to listen to your feelings a little more rather than ignoring them. Instead of suffering nervous tension and burnout, take time out, walk, read and relax - try T’ai Ch’i, for example - it can all work wonders for your nervous system.

This month is an interesting one, as your ruling planet Mercury is going backwards in Gemini over the next 3 weeks. (For more insight on this please read this month’s blog article.) This means that you could receive news from an old friend from the past, lose your address book or have a telecom crash. Please make sure that you back up all your files, so that you are well protected just in case.

We are all subject to the vagaries of Mercury’s retrograde motion - even Aries! You may have to bite the bullet and go through a load of paperwork that you thought you could forget. You may design a plan of action and test out your ideas on a family member, who can be trusted.  Make sure you write everything down because things can move ahead very rapidly next month and you don’t need to overlook an important point in your zeal to push forward. With Mars in Leo,the Universe is behind you though, so you are right to feel enthusiastic about your future - just wait a little longer before you leap into action.

Happy Birthday, Taurus - this is your month to begin a new year all of your very own. And it is year in which relationships figure strongly. Things have been quite intense for you over the last few months with Saturn in Virgo and Pluto in Capricorn, the other two Earth Signs. They have been looking across the Zodiac at your own Earth sign with somewhat serious smiles - which means that basically they’re on your side and will support you, provided you put the effort in and cooperate with them - then the rewards could really be quite something! However, as Pluto will be doing his smiley thing for the next 16 years, you’ve got plenty time to get your act together. And easy-going, gentle as you are, you will need to take your time as change comes slowly for you. 

Artistic, beautiful Venus, your ruling planet, will enter her own sign of Taurus at the end of April, so this is a good month to enjoy all the pleasures that life offers you. You could try a new hairstyle or go for a make-over. Your wardrobe may need a revamp which could be great fun, especially if you take a close friend with you and make a day of it!  With Mars slowly going through Cancer at the same time, this could be the perfect time to socialise with family members and also get out and about locally - you never know who you may meet. It is important that you Taureans make an effort to discover new people and groups, rather than always staying within your social comfort zone.
