Grand Crosses and Mutable signs

I hope this article helps shed some light on what has been happening over the last few months. I have included the likely effects of the Saturn/Neptune square for you to see how it can work in individual lives.

Grand Crosses and Mutable Signs

A couple of weeks ago we were under the rays of a New Moon (Sun/Moon conjunction) in Gemini opposite Saturn in Sagittarius both being squared (90 degrees) by Jupiter in Virgo which in turn was opposite Neptune in Pisces. This is known as a Grand Cross aspect involving all four of the Mutable signs. Big stuff. Now the Sun, Moon and Venus have moved on a few days ago, Mercury will keep up the pressure for a few days longer. So, right now this is the planetary mix that is causing a disruption for all of us – particularly those who have planets in those signs on our birth charts.

The Cardinal signs – Aries/Libra and Cancer/Capricorn – have Uranus and Pluto stirring their lives up dramatically and powerfully over these years (yes, years!) actually miss this Grand Cross. All of you with these signs large in your lives will be pleased to know, as you have enough to deal with. The Fixed signs will also miss most of the fray, except to say that the Cross hits them in their security Houses. These are the 2nd/8th – the money Houses; and 5th/11th – the family and career resources. This could feel very unsettling for Taurus/Scorpio and Leo/Aquarius right now – as they are signs that like to know exactly where they’re going and what they’re doing.

Except life is never like that for any of us, as it constantly changes. We cannot control it for a moment. Mutable energy slides out of our fingers, as does life. Our bodies are continually changing and the body you are reading this from won’t be the body you will have seven years from now. All the cells of your brain, organs, bones and muscles will have been renewed and replaced, thanks to mutability. How amazing is that?

The whole picture of this Mutable Grand Cross/T-Square energy beaming down to us on Earth seems – in the West, certainly – to be igniting the US election and the UK Brexit Campaign. There are lies, more lies, and damned lies being told to the ordinary citizens about what they can expect over the next few months if you vote Republican or Democrat, or vote to “Leave or Stay in Europe” for the UK.

The Explanation

When we look at the planets that are in this magical, fluid mix,  ie Jupiter/Saturn and Neptune with last week’s New Moon and this week’s Mercury, we see that all 4 of the Mutable signs are in the mix at present. Jupiter’s opposition to Neptune is exaggerating and firing up this great boundary less  as giant of a planet and the dilemmas he presents us with. The square of  Saturn to both these giants then demands that we have reality checks – asking questions like “What do you mean things will get better?” “How can I make a decision without knowing the facts?” “How much will it cost?” “What will my life look like afterwards?” “I want answers!” And there are no answers, truths or facts forthcoming because Neptune is blurring the lines. As he always does, because that’s his job – he mists things up so that we strive more deeply for reality and try just that bit harder.

However, the reality (Saturn) is that we can’t get through the veil of secrecy (Neptune) to get to the truth – if indeed the candidates themselves know the truth of what will emerge towards the end of 2016. Trump is suggesting that the US needs a wall (Saturn) to keep the tide of immigrants out (Neptune rules tides). The same term is being used here in Europe: we hear and read on our media that we are being “Inundated with immigrants”; while Europe is going through the biggest floods in recent history, flooding towns, cities and arable land masses during this . Not to mention the number of poor immigrants being drowned in their thousands in the Mediterranean. All thanks to Neptune breaking through the boundaries set by Saturn. And of course the inflating of numbers by Jupiter.

I have always been interested in the effects of the various major planetary aspects both in present time and history. There has been much written about Saturn and Neptune’s relationship in the astrological canon, and I am not going to rehash what’s already available to you online. However, when it’s in your face as this aspect’s effects are right now it would almost be rude not to put fingers to keyboard and add my thoughts to it.

The present square aspects between Saturn and Neptune has been going on since the end of 2014 and will end around September 2016. Jupiter entered the fray in mid-2015 when everything began to hot up. I think it’s fair to say that while we may have the impact of the actual period of any particular aspect – in other words we get hints and micro-images – it is during the aftermath that the real meaning of the aspects become clear to us. Then we have to build strategies to deal with the after effects. Neptune’s answer would be to recognise that we are all one; Saturn’s strategy is always to build walls; and Jupiter ensures that the walls are bigger and the Love is stronger. but not necessarily all at the same time.

In my research I found that the Berlin Wall was built just after a SA/NE square in the early 1960s and it fell in 1989 on their conjunction – thus ending a cycle that had started with the previous conjunction in 1952/3 and ended with the new conjunction cycle   beginning in 1989/90. This was also a time when we had huge movements of refugees during the Eastern European uprising that year. We witnessed a movement of people the like of which had not been seen since WWII. On a positive side of SA/NE, Nelson Mandela was freed from his walls during this same planetary period of 1990.

Jupiter is already leaving this complex as you read this and by the end September SA/NE will so start to separate as well. Then we will all have to pick up the pieces and deal with the aftermath as the truths emerge.

In my next article I will unpick the meaning of the Solar Eclipse which happens 1st September 2016 and stirs it all up again.

All of a sudden you begin to get real about some of themas they could ultimately be time waters. Saturn is the “reality check” planet and will help you begin to take courage around others. Look back at 1989/90 and 2000 to get a flavour of what was expected of you then and how they have echoes for you now.

You may be thinking of launching your own business. Look back at 1989/90 and 2000 to get a flavour of what was expected of you then and how they have echoes for you now. Look back at 1989/90 and 2000 to get a flavour of what was expected of you then and how they have echoes for you now.  Neptune could be blurring the lines for you regarding your joint finances – children could be making financial demands on you that seem never-ending right now and you don’t know how to firm up the boundaries.

Virgo: 23rd August – 23rd September:  Saturn will be flagging up all the things that need to be done in your domestic situation and your family life. Building projects could be taking longer than expected – even the simplest things are getting in the way of completion. Look back at 1989/90 and 2000 to get a flavour of what was expected of you then and how they have echoes for you now.  Neptune’s influence in your relationship life can blur the lines for partners – they may be going through huge uncertainty about their futures. This can be a time of many short journeys for work with little immediate good outcome – it’s all for the future. Look back at 1989/90 and 2000 to get a flavour of what was expected of you then and how they have echoes for you now. Neptune’s influence in your everyday routines can ensure that you never seem to be able to draw a close on any of them – there’s always more. Watching your health regime would be useful – swimming and sailing would be good for you.

Scorpio: 23rd October – 22nd November:  Saturn will be making sure that you work hard for every penny you earn – and there’s no let up for quite a while. This can be a time of curtailing any big ideas regarding a financial improvement – it’s reality check all the way. Look back at 1989/90 and 2000 to get a flavour of what was expected of you then and how they have echoes for you now.  Neptune’s influence is in your creative life – lots of ideas swim into your mind but you don’t just seem to have the time to develop them. Make notes and pull them out later in the year.

Sagittarius: 22nd November – 22nd December: Oh boy, have you had a tough time?  Saturn’s stay in Sagittarius lasts for another 15 months, then you’ll feel free again. This is such an important period for you as it ensures that you stay still long enough to profit from Saturn’s testing of your faith in yourself and your life’s path. This is part of a 30 year cycle and so you are ending a phase that you have outgrown and will be starting a new one soon. Your clarity will be blurred by Neptune because of the spiritual and mystical feelings that are around you right now. You may be uncertain about so many things in your life right now – such as your domestic, relationship, career goals as well as the big question “Who am I?” All will be revealed in time – you can keep your Sagittarian enthusiasm under control thanks to Saturn.

Capricorn: 22nd December -20th January: Saturn is your ruling planet so you always feel comforted by his reality checks, and common-sense actions. This is a time for wrapping up  many things in your life in readiness for a new start in about 18 months time, when Saturn goes into your sign. Right now you will be feeling uncertain about where your new direction will take you in the future. It could be a good time to take health checks, do your meditation, and in general look after yourself. Look back at 1989/90 and 2000 to get a flavour of what was expected of you then and how they have echoes for you now.  Neptune’s influence will likely be bringing new creative ideas to you about how you could use all the skills you have learned over the last 29 years and how you can profit from them in your future.

Aquarius: 20th January – 19th February:  Saturn is making you get real with your views of how your future will pan out for you. Friendships are likely to be needing some kind of cull, if you are going to be free of hangers on. Those friends who “get you” will always be around, no need to worry about them. Your ideals may be also going through a reality check, too – what used to be important may no longer be so. Look back at 1989/90 and 2000 to get a flavour of what was expected of you then and how they have echoes for you now.  Neptune’s influence will be on your personal values and your finances – also your spending. You will need to use your common-sense about how much you really have available for your desires right now.

Pisces: 19th February – 20th March:  Saturn is ensuring that you getting real in your career and future aspirations around how you may wish to work in the future. You may feel that you are not being appreciated by those in authority over you. When Saturn moves on, you may be surprised how valued you really are by them. Look back at 1989/90 and 2000 to get a flavour of what was expected of you then and how they have echoes for you now.  Neptune’s influence is in your face for quite some time to come – this can really open up your natural compassion, empathy and desire to DO something meaningful for humanity. You have waited for this transit for many years and now it’s here – the Saturn aspect will give you a good sense of much needed boundaries so that you will act sensibly in all your projects. and remember – Rome wasn’t built in a day!!
