Jupiter enters Libra 9th September, 2016

Jupiter enters Libra 9th September, 2016

Jupiter has a 12 year orbit around the Sun and Earth, so if you wish to see how his energy  worked for you through your life the last times he traversed Libra you will need to go back to 2004/5; 1992/3; 1980/81 and so on…..

When Jupiter is strong in our charts, either on the birth chart or by paying us a visit, we can begin to notice an expansive, optimistic energy in our lives. We can look to the future with greater confidence, or begin to see new horizons that seem full of promise. Our attitude towards learning, opening up to new people, also fall under Jupiter’s rays.

The ancients used the term the Greater Benefic to describe him – meaning the Greater Good Guy. Saturn on the other hand was known as the Greater Malefic – meaning the Big Bad Guy. And it is the rhythm of Jupiter’s expansion and Saturn’s contraction that can be likened to the beating of the heart or the in-breath and the out-breath. Through part of 2016 the two planets were in contention – and it’s my belief that the fear element of Saturn won over Jupiter’s optimism that took my country out of Europe. In the US, Donald Trump also fed into this fear level engendered by the SA/JU square through the canvassing for the Presidency through 2016.

Financial astrologers use the JU/SA cycles as well in their forecasting – the Bull and Bear periods of wealth and austerity. This has also been happening worldwide. And now the times they are a’changing.

The ancients linked the JU/SA cycles as having royal and national  importance in the lives of the populace. Now that the cycle is moving on as Jupiter enters Libra, it will be interesting to see what happens next. In 4BC, there was a conjunction of these two energies in Pisces which heralded the beginning of the Age of Pisces and the birth of Jesus. The Wise Men, who were astrologers, knew this and travelled far to herald the birth of the infant King of a New Millenium, while Herod, in Saturnian mode, sought to kill him.

Traditionally both Sagittarius and Pisces are said to be ruled by Jupiter, although modern astrologers assign Pisces to Neptune’s rulership now. Both signs however do have a strong faith in a spiritual and/or religious sense. They are both signs without boundaries and rule the oceans and long distance travel – physically in Jupiter’s case and aspirationally in Neptune’s case. It is easy to see why we have divided the rulerships here.

So now we look at the sign that Jupiter is leaving and also the one he is entering. This last 12 months have seen Jupiter placed in Virgo and he will enter Libra by the time you read this article (see title bar). To understand how these combinations work, it is useful to look at the elements of the various signs. There are four of each Fire/Earth/Air and Water. Virgo is an Earth sign and Libra is an Air sign. Neither of which are represented by Jupiter’s two original signs – Sagittarius is a Fire sign and Pisces is Water. Traditionally Jupiter is described as a Fire planet – hot and dry.

So over this last 12 months expansive Jupiter has been confined  to a narrow vision of life in Virgo, which likes to miniaturise everything, while his natural inclination is to take broad sweeps and ignore the small. Now he is entering Libra, a cool Air sign, that is reasonable, with balanced views and diplomatic skills. So for the next 12 months, compromise becomes the order of our time rather than flagrant passions and wild expressions. We will have to wait another year for that.

However, this is not to knock this sojourn through Libra – because the planet is in desperate need of balance, diplomacy, discussion and an attempt at harmony. We need all our views to be heard and an end to religious intolerance. Let’s hope that those with  political power and knowhow are able to listen to Jupiter’s promptings and act upon them for the benefit of humankind.

As a natural communicator you may find that you are asked to speak at your child’s school or even edit their blog articles. This could open up a hidden desire to write creatively. Take a course and expand your skills. As the 5th house is also associated with risks – don’t put all your eggs in one basket, believing that you’re on a winner. Caution could be advised here.

Why not take a good look and salvage what works and ditch the rest? You could spend the next 12 months on the road, out and about, teaching, blogging and spreading the word of whatever floats your boat. You have a lot to say and others will want to hear it.

Virgo: 23rd August – 23rd September:  Jupiter is in your 2nd House of personal finances and value systems ruling your 4th House of home, family and domestic changes. Jupiter moving on from Virgo may give you a strong sense of release – the pressure to expand is over and you can relax into your natural cautious impulse. You may find that your finances go through some kind of expansion and that things become easier as a result. Many of your old values could also go through a shift – what you believed in once may no longer be appropriate for this time in your life.

A sibling or cousin may suggest a trip for fun – why not take it? This year will see you rewriting your own personal rulebook – and you may surprise yourself at how quickly you make the changes you need .

Scorpio: 23rd October – 22nd November:  Jupiter is in your 12th  House of mystical and spiritual matters and rules your 2nd House of personal finances and values. This could be a time of examining your long held belief systems and asking if they’re fit for purpose any longer. If they aren’t, then let them go and surrender to the Universal impulse because it knows better anyway. Meditation, silence, prayer and poetry could all give you great nourishment and inner peace. Strong emotions can be reasoned with and harmony could result. Finances could be very good this year.

Sagittarius: 22nd November – 22nd December:  Jupiter is in your 11th House of prospects, groups, friendships and rules your 1st House of YOU and YOUR hopes and wishes. You will be a magnet for others to join your social group either online or in the flesh. Many of these new people will come from a different spiritual system or country and will inform your future attitudes and ideals. Thanks to Libra the headstrong qualities of SAG will be modified and opened up for examination with a cool head and balanced heart.

This could be the time when you are asking if the career path you’re on is right for you at this time. The expansive nature of Jupiter could be bringing you lots of new ideas and opportunities to explore what really makes your heart sing. This is a time for you to really expand your horizons by taking that journey you’ve always wanted to make. However, with Jupiter in Libra it’s likely that you will do it with others and may meet someone special along the way. Your eyes could be well and truly opened as to how the rest of the world functions and you could uncover from within yourself a new drive to do something significant.

Pisces: 19th February – 20th March: Jupiter is in your 8th House of joint finances, taxes, and debts ruling your 10th House of career and your professional profile. This could be a warning to be very careful about how you share what you have with others. Pisces is  overly-sensitive and a bit of an easy touch to others – so use the cool head of Libra while being warm towards their plight. You may decide to on a profession that enables you to work in a charitable way and earn well at the same time – this could also be a chance to job share as well. This could give you time away from the deeper pressures of sympathy.
