Every month we experience a New Moon, when the Sun and the Moon occupy the same zodiacal degree in the sky above us. Then, two weeks later, the Moon travels halfway across the Zodiac and rests in the same degree in the opposite sign that the Sun occupies – this is a Full Moon. And every month throughout the year they weave their way around the twelve signs of the Zodiac.
This month, today, they meet in the early degrees of Aries. What makes this meeting different is that there are two other planets on either side of the New Moon/Sun. And these two planets will modify the effects of the New Moon for us all.
The two planets are: Mercury on his backwards journey towards the last degrees of Pisces and Uranus on his forward trajectory towards 8 degrees of Aries in mid-July. Mercury is associated with the spreading of information, gossiping, causing mayhem in the market place, health and healing, young school children, teachers and writers.
Uranus is almost like a super-charged Mercury as he is associated with technology, sudden alarming events; reversals of fortune – in both directions, positive and negative; changes, telecommunications, Large Hadron Colliders, humanitarian endeavours, left wing politics, scientists and inventors.
The combination of Mercury (ME) and Uranus (UR) gives us extraordinary sparks and flashes of insight, brilliant inventive ideas – and also sadly, sudden painful events involving young people, as we have witnessed in Europe over the last couple of weeks.
This month the New Moon comes between them and creates a new dynamic.
When looking at what this rich kaleidoscope can mean on a personal level, we have to look at where Aries falls in relation to your own Zodiac Sign, and what areas are ruled by both Mercury and Uranus, also from your sign. Aries : 21st March – 20th April: The New Moon falling in your 1st Solar House, combining ME and UR brings a month of high excitement and lots of good ideas. You could be taking an important short journey to visit your most important friendships – the one person with whom you can bounce ideas around with and not feel silly doing it. You are full of get up and go this month, pursuing your passions. Maybe a good month for finally starting that diet or health regime. A sibling could suddenly make demands.
Taurus: 19th April – 20th May: The New Moon falling in your 12th Solar House, combining ME and UR brings a month of unrest that may disturb your equilibrium. Your children may be somewhat more expensive than you had bargained for this month. With the 12th house being the house of self-undoing, you will need to watch your words – think before you speak, especially with someone in authority. Taurus is slow to anger, but once you do, you can raise the rooftops – so have a good shout in the car, instead.
Gemini: 20th May – 20th June: The New Moon falling in your 11th Solar House, combining ME and UR brings a month of friendships and of joining a new group for learning maybe a technical subject that you can pursue in your home. You may finally get round to putting in broadband or buying an all-singing and dancing TV system. You could make plans for a foreign holiday later in the year, not to lie on a beach, but to make a more exploratory journey with friends, like a safari, for example.
Cancer: 21st June – 22nd July: The New Moon falling in your 10th Solar House, combining ME and UR brings a month of working hard. You will be burning the midnight oil by maybe bringing work home so that you get ahead of your colleagues. Take a good look at your shared finances as you may get an unexpected bill that could need all your resources to sort out. A sibling or cousin may have a sudden urge to be in touch with you – the ball’s in your court with that one!
Leo: 22nd July – 22nd August: The New Moon falling in your 9th Solar House, combining ME and UR brings a month of excitement in both the relationship front which can have you looking to your future. You may suddenly earn more money, especially if you are self-employed. Clients are seeking you out as your work is being noticed and the word is spreading. You could be studying an esoteric or spiritual subject that will bring you joy and will ultimately bring new people into your circle.
Virgo: 22nd August – 22nd September: The New Moon falling in your 8th Solar House, combining ME and UR brings a month of sharing your resources and maybe taking out a mortgage. Your eyes or on your career as there are changes afoot – maybe a new computer system or telecommunications system is being installed and driving you all nuts. Keep calm and just do your bit. A good time to maybe have a health check or try some new alternative therapy that may seem whacky but that nevertheless works wonders for your nervous system.
Libra: 22nd September – 23rd October: The New Moon falling in your 7th Solar House, combining ME and UR brings relationships to the fore – happy Libra, when love is in the air! This could involve someone from a different culture, religion or country who opens your minds to many new possibilities. Just be sure that you don’t throw all caution to the wind and run away together before you have learned all the ins and outs of the language and religious system. No matter, this is definitely a fun and creative month.
Scorpio 23rd October – 21st November: The New Moon falling in your 6th Solar House, combining ME and UR brings a month of research and routine that works for you very well and has an impact on your future goals. Your joint finances go through a shift in emphasis and bring about a sense of relief – like a debt being finally paid off. Friendships, political groups and ideals have you looking towards the future with optimism. Your home could be a source of solace now and maybe could do with a makeover.
Sagittarius 21st November – 21st December: The New Moon falling in your 5th Solar House, combining ME and UR brings a month of combining a creative urge with a partner that you can turn into some kind of business venture. You may find a relationship with a work colleague that can have business implications. You could be writing and travelling around some unexpected areas of your neighbourhood – maybe for some kind of market research. This is a month of fun and experimenting with many creative ideas that can have a lasting impact on your career.
Capricorn 21st December -19th January: The New Moon falling in your 4th Solar House, combining ME and UR brings a month of concentration on personal earnings and closely examining what is important to you. You will find that your values are highly individualistic, making you exciting to be with. Home matters are to the fore – maybe with a view to relocating later in the year. You may suddenly have new opportunities to earn more – so a busy month ahead. A person from a different culture to your own may offer you work.
Aquarius 20th January – 19th February: The New Moon falling in your 3rd Solar House, combining ME and UR brings a month of communications, writing, teaching and lecturing – all with the new technologies. This is a fun month with creative possibilities especially with something that you have long held in your heart. Could be that novel you’ve got in the back of a drawer. Certainly you are looking for more independence that you have right now, both intellectually and creatively. You may take out a loan to finance this – or investing in a child’s future.
Pisces 19th February – 20th March: The New Moon falling in your 2nd Solar House, combining ME and UR brings a month of new financial possibilities – just make sure that you don’t overextend your resources as UR rules your 12th house of self-undoing. Have a friend read over the small print for you. Home and relationships are key this month – maybe you decide to share a house together – which is great, as long as you can have a room that you can call your own oasis of peace, for meditating and reflection.
