Solar Eclipse on 1st September 2016

Just for those who are new to this site, I would like to welcome you and also give a brief description of what an eclipse actually is. Each month we have a new Moon when the Sun and Moon are together on the same degree of the Zodiac; we also have a Full Moon which is when the Sun and Moon are on opposite sides of the Zodiac. An Eclipse occurs when the Sun and Moon are also on the exact same Latitude of the Ecliptic. The Moon gets between the Sun and the Earth blocking out the Sun’s light, causing a momentary shadow across the Earth – this time falling across Africa, from the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean. The Lunar Eclipse is a Full Moon during which the Earth gets between the Sun and the Moon, causing the Moon to turn red and unable to reflect the Sun’s light.

There are usually two Solar Eclipses per year and there can be up to 4 Lunar Eclipses, attendant to them, although that is rare. Eclipses occur around five and a half months apart. They move backwards around the Zodiac counter to the “normal” motion of the planets; starting each cycle at the end of a sign and ending at the beginning. Very “Alice in Wonderland”. On an individual chart they occupy opposite signs across the Zodiac for around 18 months and emphasise the meaning of the Astrological Houses involved.

Solar Eclipses return to the same degree of the Zodiac on the same day every 19 years – so it can be useful to ask yourself what you were doing in September 1997 and how did your life change after then? This can lead to an understanding of the deeper cosmic questions about your inner process of awakening to the fact that we are all made of stardust, each one of us in our own unique way.

******************************

The Solar Eclipse on 1st September and its attendant Lunar Eclipse are the last on the Virgo/Pisces axis until a Solar Eclipse (SE) at the last minutes of Virgo in 2025 but no Lunar Eclipse in Pisces (LE) before. Normal service is resumed until 2034/35 when both Pisces and Virgo have their full quota of eclipses. And I have no idea why this should be that there is only one single eclipse in a particular sign over 19 years. Maybe some astronomy savvy soul out there can tell us?

I suppose all I can say is that for more or less the next 19 years, all you Virgo/Pisces people, you’re off the hook!

The present SE at 9 degrees of Virgo (VI) will be technically total but the Moon is too far from the Earth for the apex of its shadow to reach the Earth’s surface. Therefore the Moon will not entirely hide the Sun, so a bright ring of light will be seen surrounding the dark New Moon. This is known as an Annular Eclipse – meaning “Ring”. (See Michelson’s American Ephemeris for the 21st Century for this information.)

The following Lunar Eclipse will be at 24 Pisces and will be an Apppulse, which means that the Moon only enters the penumbra (shadow) of the Earth; so we will only see it as a partial Eclipse. (See Michelson above.)

What is interesting about this SE is that its position at 9 Virgo is in opposition (180 degrees) to Neptune in Pisces; and a Square – (quarter circle aspect 90 degrees) aspect to Saturn in Sagittarius.

This is an extremely potent mix of hard and soft energies playing across 3 of the Mutable i.e. changeable signs: Virgo – Eclipse/Sagittarius – Saturn/ and Pisces – Neptune; while Gemini is not directly impacted, it will pick up the energies floating in its direction. My guess is that this will impact on education, health services and charities; on volunteer programs and on rescue workers worldwide. And we’ll see how it pans out.

Virgo is the sign of Service – from religious to practical – Nuns and Priests to Nurses and Doctors. Sagittarius is primarily about foreign affairs and higher education – and Saturn is the blocking reality check planet here. So the question will be: can any nation afford to educate its young any longer unless there is the money to pay for it? The same goes for healthcare. Pisces is about spirituality rising from the grassroots completely by-passing orthodox religions. With Neptune in Pisces these last 5 or so years, we have heard people saying “I’m not religious but I do believe that my life has meaning in a spiritual way.”

Just to say that however the Eclipse works for you, it will bring real and long lasting changes that ultimately give you a new direction in your life. Give up the struggle and go with the flow!!

Aries : 21st March – 20th April: With the Eclipse falling your 6th House of work, rhythms and routines, you can expect to find that things don’e go exactly to plan. If you’ve employed workers in for building repairs, for example, then they will drag their feet or cancel at the last minute. Or the finished job won’t meet your high standards. Take a break and relax – there’s no point in making yourself ill over it. Someone in the office at work may go sick and you have to take over their tasks. A neighbour may complain about something beyond your control or your holiday plans may go awry.

Taurus: 20th April – 20th May: With the Eclipse falling your 5th House of children, romance and enjoyment, you may find changes in your everyday relationship with your children – they may move away, move back in after a long break away, or leave for college. You may meet someone you are attracted to but then find that they don’t quite live up to your hopes – so it’s better to take your time before making any huge decisions and regretting it later. A child may need financing to a level beyond your abilities which can cause quarrels with your loved ones.

Gemini: 21st May – 21st June: With the Eclipse falling your 4th House of your domestic life can bring forced changes in your home environment. You may have to take responsibility for an ageing family member – bringing the need to expand your living circumstances. You may decide to sell your home which drags on longer than you would wish. You may find that there are leaks or floods due to matters beyond your control, that demand sorting before you can move out. This could be a really good time to clear your life of people who are no longer being a positive influence for you.

Cancer: 21st June – 23rd July: With the Eclipse falling your 3rd House of siblings, cousins, neighbours and short journeys it can bring a complete change of mental constructs, conditions around your siblings or a neighbour – you may even find that you have to take a new route to work and see a more interesting neighbourhood to explore along the road. A brother or sister may make demands on you or each other and use you as their sounding board – family is so important to you that you can hold the position of “Wise Person” for them. Just ensure that you have the energy to fulfil all their needs. A holiday may be just what you need but the Eclipse may mean that you take it later on.

Leo: 23rd July – 23rd August: The Eclipse falling your 2nd House of personal finances can press your anxiety buttons, as you will need to be prepared for many changes in your income over the next few months – and this can go both ways – up or down. It is important that you are really circumspect with friends and lending them money. It could be that your children cost you more that you had planned so a friend could be the final straw. Also watch out for unworthy causes – Leo is such a generous sign that you won’t like this advice, but you can just wait for a while for the energy to pass. All of this could make you very sensible where your money is concerned which can only be a good thing.

Virgo: 23rd August – 23rd September: With the Eclipse falling your 1st House of personal matters, what turns YOU on, and the direction you want take your life, you may find yourself completely changing your drives and ambitions throughout the coming year. You won’t recognise yourself. Relationships, vocation, home and personal interests are all up for grabs – some of it could be hard won, but it’s really a golden opportunity to let the old out and the new in!! A parent may be going through a hard time so you will need to take some responsibility for them. Issues can arise if you are working on your property.

Libra: 23rd September – 23rd October: With the Eclipse falling your 12th House of solitude and personal inner growth the emphasis is for you to look after your health by watching your diet, taking a sensible exercise programme and doing some your self-care. It is not a time to change jobs or home – it is more abut sticking to your routines. This is a good eclipse for writing a book, or poetry, doing research work. As always with the 12th house, you may find yourself making lots of hospital visits – for others, of course – or maybe doing some research into healthcare or education for a college degree. A piece of old family history may emerge from the hidden depths – to write about maybe? Meditation is also good for you.

Scorpio: 23rd October – 22nd November: With the Eclipse falling your 11th House could bring about a cherished goal and spur your ambitions to a successful achievement. It could also balance all this with some losses or changes in your friendships and relationships and also changes etc for them as well. This will make room for new friends to come into your life throughout the coming year. A parent may give you concern. This can be quite an erratic period for you as you will be adjusting to new circumstances

and so may need to fit some well-earned down time on your own to readjust your ideas. You will also need to put a good budget plan into effect that works to your advantage.

Sagittarius: 22nd November – 22nd December: With the Eclipse falling your 10th House of career, responsibilities, your public standing. As a result you may decide to make major changes in your vocation, or even decide to leave the job you’re already in. The real focus of this Eclipse is to help you be prepared for changes in your business and your professional life. You may have to put in a lot of personal effort to attain your goals but the promise is that you can only benefit from them in the long run. You may make some personal sacrifices for others – parents, aunts and uncles, for example – but again, this will be good for all of you. Relationships can be demanding – a good dose of balancing energy can work wonders for you here.

Capricorn: 22nd December -20th January: With the Eclipse falling your 9th House of higher learning, long distance travel, religious and intellectual interests and foreign affairs, any of them can be interrupted due to unforeseen circumstances. It’s a good time for looking at your long-term plans for your future and taking care of insurances etc. Just watch that you don’t park your car on a double yellow line as a public official won’t take kindly to you and may make you pay a big fine. Your work colleagues may be giving you a hard time – don’t take it personally – it’s their problem, not yours. A long journey for your work may be delayed en route. This is not the time for major decisions – just bide your time and let things unfold as they should.

Aquarius: 20th January – 19th February: With the Eclipse falling your 8th House of mortgages, shared finances, insurance, taxes and debts can make a dent in your financial security this year. Best to make no major purchases that require financing this year. A child may cost you more than you would have wished – so to finance it you may have to make some sacrifices. Your social life may be going through turmoil with you wondering who to trust and who to let go. A friend may be having a hard time and require emotional support from you – although that’s not really your thing, you’ll do your best to help. A good piece of advice is for you question every possibility that is put in front of you by your group – in other words don’t take everything at face value.

Pisces: 19th February – 20th March: With the Eclipse falling your 7th House of relationships, partnerships and clients, you may find that this area of your life is completely up for grabs. If you are single, then you may marry – just be patient and don’t rush into anything. There may be an offer of a business partnership that interests you – but with all eclipse actions please take your time and do your research into the validity of it all. Clients may come and go – one moment you’ve got lots, then a few then suddenly you’ve got lots again. It’s just like the tides of the oceans for you right now. If you decide to make any investments then please ask an expert before you invest. Socially, you could be on a winner.
