Something New for the New Year

First let me wish you all a very happy and prosperous New Year! May 2012 bring you much joy!

I thought it would be fun to play the numbers game as we head into 2012. Many years ago I wrote the Numerology book in Dorling Kindersley’s “The Secrets of ….” series. The books are still being published, most recently in Estonia and Japan, by Penguin, who took over their publication a few years ago. However, I believe they are out of print in English.

The text below is my own updated and expanded version of the Prediction section of my book. And I offer it to show how these ancient systems can resonate and impact on our lives, Astrology and Numerology, to name but two systems, seem to resonate well together. This indicates to me that the ancients really did possess an understanding that went far beyond how we imagine them to be, i.e. ignorant and unreasoning, from our own “enlightened and scientific” view of humanity. And how the values that these systems uncover are seen to be meaningless in our present age.

So, please enjoy a dip into how 2012 could pan out for you once you have done the calculation described thus: your Personal Year is easy to calculate – simply add the digits of your day of birth to those of your birth month. Add the total to the number of the present year. For example, if you were born on 25th December, the digits would be 25 for the day and 12 for the month – these then each add up to 7 for the day (2+5) and 3 for the month (1+2); add these together and get 7 + 3 = 10; then 1+0 = 1. The digits for 2012 add up to 5. By adding the 1 to the 5, you have a personal year of 6.

To recap, add the digits of your birthday and month – NOT the year – to 5 (for 2012) and that will give you the number of your personal year in 2012.

There are two numbers that numerologists use as the starting point of your profile – the first is your Personality Number, which is calculated from the addition of numbers that attribute to the letters of your full name on your birth certificate, and which describes who you are; the second number is your Destiny or Life Path Number which is calculated by adding ALL the digits of your birth day, month and year. This number describes your life journey or destiny. The Personal Years that are easiest and seem to pass most quickly are those that resonate with either of these two original birth numbers.

The numbers of the Personal Years create a Nine Year cycle, so that 2012 resonates or echoes 2003, 1994, 1985 and so on. 2012 will then resonate in the future to 2021. There are two Master Numbers – Eleven and Twenty Two – which if they appear as either of your birth numbers are not broken down. Master Numbers are important because they point to a special personality or destiny during this lifetime. Eleven is the number of the Magician, the powerful person who can impact the lives of others, wither for good or ill. Twenty Two is the architect who creates great organisations or buildings, for either good or ill, also.

Personal Year One: This is the year of new beginnings, starting afresh, launching new enterprises and births of all kinds. Many people start their families during a One year. Projects begun will develop through all the stages of the nine-year cycle. Odd numbers find it easy. Fours and Eights struggle, as they are numbers of structure, and one cannot limit the fresh activity of the Number One by attempting to put it into a form too soon.

Personal Year Two: The key meaning is that of relationship – so it is a year of co-operation, marriage, moving in with a lover, taking on a business partner. A time of sharing and taking the needs of others into account by finding the balance between yourself and them. Many people find it an emotional period. Odd numbers may feel wrong-footed throughout the year. Even numbers enjoy it.

Personal Year Three: Life beckons. It is period of exploration – of ideas, philosophies, countries and creativity. The urge to communicate is strong. This is a good time to finish that novel in the bottom drawer of your desk. Start thinking of yourself again. Even numbers feel their security is threatened due to the initial uncertainty that is created. There are no set answers. The basic theme is of learning about yourself in your environment and how you express your findings to others.

Personal Year Four: This can be a difficult year for some people. It is a year for putting structure in your life. You may be in a financial hole and are forced to get real about your attitudes towards money. So, you hone your skills, behave like a true professional, have a make-over, and get out into the market place. Fours love it because they feel that at last life is speaking their language. Threes and Fives feel imprisoned.

Eleven and Twenty Two Personal Years: These two Master Numbers can further reduce to Two and Four – good practical numbers with their feet firmly on the ground. Qualities that may be much needed during these special Personal Years. This can be a time of great insight and expansion of consciousness about yourself, the world and your place in the whole scheme of things. Please note that anyone can have a Master Number Personal Year.

Personal Year Five: Freedom from routine is the keynote, and some find it a relief after the previous year of too much reality. Life moves creatively on. This is a good year to launch a new creative venture. A year of having babies, either of the mind or body. Twos are uncomfortable because the energy can threaten their hard won emotional stability. Fours may put a lot of effort into resisting it and could miss an opportunity for further expansion.

Personal Year Six: This is a year of developing your empathy and need to serve others. Your personal concerns are lovingly put aside as others need you more. An elderly parent may need help or a grandchild may be born. It is be a good year to take care of your health and your routines so that you don’t overdo things. Number Ones might feel trapped. Fours, Sixes and Eights throw themselves in with glee and get down to the details.

Personal Year Seven: This is a good year for getting your research project underway. Some people enter psychotherapy or personal development programs to explore their patterns. You are extra sensitive to music, colour and movies during this time. You may begin a spiritual search or go back into higher education course. Eights and Fours are suspicious. Odd numbers are happy.

Personal Year Eight: This can be a good time to revamp your pension cover, reduce your mortgage or make your Will. The even numbers need to hold back their enthusiasm for borrowing or risk-taking – odd numbers need to avoid any kind of debt. It could be a great year for ending financial stress. Good for corporate management. It can also challenging as the Universe seems to make everything slow down, just so that you really learn how to handle yourself in a broader market place.

Personal Year Nine: The end of the process that started Nine years ago. Relationships past their sell-by date, habitual ways of behaving, even old clothes that no longer fit can all go now. You may find a new idealism growing within that could propel you onto a larger stage than before. Realistic action for change is the keynote. Can be uncomfortable for all the numbers unless you are willing to face up to what’s really happening in your life and make the necessary changes so that you are ready for the new life that awaits next year!

The decades of the last century are accurately described by their own numbers – the Twenties, the Forties, the Eighties, for example. The qualities of the particular number are encapsulated in the ten year period, although, most decades don’t seem to warm to their own particular theme until a couple of years after the beginning. It’s as if the energy of the previous decade seems to exert a power until a shift occurs, usually into the third year.

The Twenties (A 2 decade) was a decade of experimenting with relationships. Jazz music provided the soundtrack and people danced the night away together. The Thirties (a 3 decade)was the decade of exploration by air. The Forties (a 4 decade) was the decade of austerity and wars over property. The Fifties (a 5 decade) was the decade of rebellion. Teenagers were born. The Sixties (a 6 decade) gave us the “Summer of Love” and the desire for the perfect relationship. It also created an interest in alternative health and therapies.

The Seventies (a 7 decade) was the decade of overland travel in search of mystical experiences and of escapism and idealism. The Eighties (an 8 decade) brought us all back to our senses – power dressing and the birth of the attitudes that are giving us the problems we are experiencing today. The Nineties (a 9 decade) saw the collapse of totalitarian regimes through the velvet revolution and wars in Bosnia and Rwanda, causing thousands of refugees looking to make a fresh start elsewhere, thus creating new national boundaries.

The first decade of the new century was interesting for the event in 2001, a 3 year – 2+1 = 3. I associate Number 3 with air travel, as it is an Air Number ruled by Mercury, and with the “Twinned” symbolism of a Number 2 day gives us 9/11, it is clear to see how it worked out – and actually changed history. The complete combination of 9/11/2001 breaks down to 5, the number associated with the USA – it also contains the Master Number Eleven, making us wonder about the destiny of that day.
