The “Blood Red Moon” – or rather the Full Moon Eclipse

All Lunar Eclipses that are total i.e. the Moon completely covered by the shadow of the Earth are blood red. This is due to the Earth’s atmosphere obscuring the Moon and nothing to worry about. It is actually quite impressive and not a little eerie to experience.

There are no fewer than 4 such Lunar Eclipses over the next 20 months – this is apparently quite a rarity. Called a Tetrad apparently. The first (although I don’t believe that – there must have been sightings in ancient times) was in 1493/4, during which time Columbus “discovered” the Americas, which were divided between Portugal and Spain.

The next Tetrad occurred during 1949/50 which saw the birth of Israel, NATO and also the beginning of the Korean War 1950-3.

The third instance of a Tetrad was through 1967/8 which saw the 6-Day Arab/Israeli War and the build up to the first US manned space flight the following year. It was also the time of the Detroit Riots and the growth of the Peace Movements and Feminist Movements, also. Yes, there was the war in Vietnam going on but there was huge resistance to it during this time. This resistance seemed to empower young people world wide and life has never been the same since.

The reason I’m writing this is to counter the Christian press which is announcing the Tetrad as “the end of the world”. Well it didn’t end in any of the previous Tetrads, so why it should during this one is a mystery to me, to be honest.

However, we can take the themes of the above events and see that there could have been a progression of energy from the discovery of the New World, the warring events through the 2nd half of the 20th Century, to the birth of the peace movements, equality for women, respect for the Earth as a living being in its own right (Gaia principle) and the development of alternative healing methods. Quite a package – and maybe some might see that as the end of the world, who knows?

All Eclipses repeat their Zodiacal position every 19 years, whether they are total or partial. If you want to find out how they will impact your life go back to 1995/6; 1976/7; 1957/8 – and so on backwards through the decades – and see what you were doing then. As life is a process, then you may be able to discern repeating events, each subsequent one being a refinement of the one previous to it.

These Lunar eclipses fall across Aries/ Libra and bring relationships and independent action to the fore – those nice Librans who are easy going and allowing by nature, i.e. peace at any price, are now fighting back and saying “enough already!!” Sounds interesting – I think Libra needs to be empowered as it is the sign of the Peace Archetype, whereas Aries is the War Archetype. According to Classical Astrology the Sun is Exalted in Mars ruled Aries, i.e. its best possible placement. This may have been true millennia ago when life was precarious; but no longer surely?

Classical Astrology also says that the Sun in Venus ruled Libra is said to be in its Fall i.e. the worst possible place for it, which has to be a nonsense in our world today. We really need peacemaking and world diplomacy if we are going to reach the highest we can be as conscious beings. We need to feed our souls on the stars, on beauty, love, art and harmony in order to get the most nourishment for our selves – and this is the time for us to make a start now!

The two Solar Eclipses of 2014 fall across the Taurus/Scorpio axis – two fixed feminine signs, that look at the world very differently to Aries/Libra. They bring growth, stability and profound understanding of the mysteries of life. In order to do this, we have to stand still and listen to the new life waking up, as Taurus occurs at the coming of spring; at the end of the year, we have to stand still again to watch the planet pull its energies back into the earth to withstand the harshness of winter in the Northern Hemisphere. Please reverse this if you are living below the Equator.
