Various bits and pieces today – Uranus/Pluto, the Mayans, the Fixed Signs

This blog article is a day early due to the Transit of Venus occurring on 6th June – i.e. today as you are reading. Please go online to watch this phenomenon – miss it and you’ll have to wait until another life-time as the next one is in 2117.

The square of Venus and Mars is now over – the next one will be in mid-September in Leo/Scorpio, so I guess Mars will win that mini-skirmish as he has dominion over Scorpio and Venus isn’t too happy in Leo, as she spends too lavishly there. No doubt you can imagine the scenarios that may ensue . However, it’s months away so no need to worry right now.

The Uranus/Pluto square is once again operational as it was through 2011- and becomes exact on 24th June. This aspect will recur another 6 times through 2012-15. It’s worth saying that these two planets move so slowly that although the aspect is exact on 24th June, they have already facing each other off over the last few weeks.

All of our financial woes started with Pluto going into Capricorn – the agent of endings, breakdowns and transformation in the sign of long lived institutions, corporate entities, i.e. governments, banks, educational systems, and religious organisations. In fact, anything that smells of power that has been around for many centuries.

Uranus in Aries, the sign of innovators, independent thinkers, soldiers, will bring a desire for personal freedom and humanitarian drives. We can expect many changes to workers’ needs; the importance of freedom from slavery and the willingness to fight for it; the rise of the common people in all countries where they are being badly treated.

The Catholic Church has very recently begun to go through major upheavals with the arrest of the Vatican Bankers, together with the Church facing permanent disruption and banishment in at least five countries if it does not comply with ten “non-negotiable measures” by September 15, 2012, according to a global coalition of survivors of church rape and torture. Add that to the butler leaking information that he could never have had access to in the first place – another cover up? We watch with interest and wonder what next?

The German astrologer Reinhold Ebertin says in his classic “The Combination of Stellar Influences” that the principal of Uranus/Pluto (UR/PL) in relationship to each other is the process of transformation; the collapse of the old order of things; the construction of the new, and revolution. As we look back to the mid-sixties and the early thirties, when they were last in challenging aspect to each other, we can see how right now it’s business as usual under their influence, starting with the financial institutions and then who knows what and where?

On a personal level(that’s you and me), Ebertin suggests that this can indicate the fight to establish innovative reforms; a strong awareness of purpose and objectives; untiring effort and endurance; and great creativity. This sounds like the Arab Spring, I think. The probable manifestations are – the bringing into a new order of being and the creation of new conditions of living.

And right now, somewhere in the world, these things are happening – the upheavals, the violence, the rapidity of changes, and the sudden reversals that Uranus can bring. We always say to clients who are undergoing any kind of Uranus activity in their lives “Let’s just wait until the dust settles and then we’ll see.”

The Fixed Signs

The midpoint of UR/PL falls in the final decanate of Aquarius, around 20-30 degrees, so any readers who have the Sun, Moon or Ascendant at these degrees of the so-called Fixed Signs, Leo/Aquarius and Taurus/Scorpio, will be feeling a real urge to make huge changes in their own lives – or others may be doing it for them. This aspect can commonly happen around the birth of a child – a joyous occasion no doubt, however the child may be challenging and disruptive, highly creative and extremely bright.

When I look at the charts of explorers, freedom fighters, courageous healers like Albert Schweitzer, artists like Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst, politicians such as Barak Obama and the leaders of the UK, the UR/PL stamp is writ large in their psyches.

This is all happening in order that we embrace the values and ideals of the Aquarian Age that we entered recently – these are very much about the New Age of Humankind, of Universalism; rational behaviour rather than greed,  clannishness and tribalism; and above all, Compassion and Love, rather than war. So, while we may be thinking that life seems to be against us right now, we must remember that the planets are Intelligences such as we cannot begin to imagine, whose thinking is always of the highest, holding to principles that honour each and every one of us, as reflections of their Divine qualities. The planets take the long view and know that they will repeat these aspects again and again throughout their long futures.  Maybe we can give thanks for this golden opportunity to witness these very real changes – after all, nothing stays the same anyway and life is continually in flux – so give thanks, I say, and see where the ride takes you.

The latest Mayan Calendars

This piece below will give comfort to any of us who are concerned that the world will end in December this year. Although we are going through the end of a world age, it is not the end of the world itself. I read this article – and it’s only a particle – on BBC News Online 12th May, 2012 and found it very interesting, especially as my own astrology software becomes a little wobbly a thousand years ago and ahead – the Mayans had no computers, so how did they do it? No wonder the indigenous Mayans wept when the “enlightened” Spanish invaders smashed their stone calendars in front of them.

“The oldest-known version of the ancient Maya calendar has been discovered adorning a lavishly painted wall in the ruins of a city deep in the Guatemalan rainforest.

The hieroglyphs, painted in black and red, along with a colorful mural of a king and his mysterious attendants, seem to have been a sort of handy reference chart for court scribes in A.D. 800 — the astronomers and mathematicians of their day. Contrary to popular myth, this calendar isn’t a countdown to the end of the world in December 2012, the study researchers said.

‘The Mayan calendar is going to keep going for billions, trillions, octillions of years into the future,’ said archaeologist David Stuart of the University of Texas, who worked to decipher the glyphs. ‘Numbers we can’t even wrap our heads around.’”
