Cosmic Influences for Grown-ups – May 2008

Happy Birthday, Taurus – this is your month to begin a new year all of your very own. And it is year in which relationships figure strongly. Things have been quite intense for you over the last few months with Saturn in Virgo and Pluto in Capricorn, the other two Earth Signs. They have been looking across the Zodiac at your own Earth sign with somewhat serious smiles – which means that basically they’re on your side and will support you, provided you put the effort in and cooperate with them – then the rewards could really be quite something! However, as Pluto will be doing his smiley thing for the next 16 years, you’ve got plenty time to get your act together. And easy-going, gentle as you are, you will need to take your time as change comes slowly for you.

Artistic, beautiful Venus, your ruling planet, will enter her own sign of Taurus at the end of April, so this is a good month to enjoy all the pleasures that life offers you. You could try a new hairstyle or go for a make-over. Your wardrobe may need a revamp which could be great fun, especially if you take a close friend with you and make a day of it!  With Mars slowly going through Cancer at the same time, this could be the perfect time to socialise with family members and also get out and about locally – you never know who you may meet. It is important that you Taureans make an effort to discover new people and groups, rather than always staying within your social comfort zone.

Towards the end of May, Venus then gets to visit Gemini for about 3 weeks. This could be a good period for looking at your financial and material situation. This could involve some paperwork and maybe a couple of mind changes along the way.  Through June and July your focus will be on family and your home life.  Venus is the planet of aesthetics, so you may decide that your apartment doesn’t reflect your inner sense of beauty any longer – time to get the paintbrushes out! This could also be a good time to start meditating as Venus will also be gazing across the Zodiac at Neptune, planet of spirituality and all things mystical.

At the beginning of August, Venus enters Virgo and has an assignation with Saturn, the reality factor planet. This could cause you to stop in your tracks and count the cost of your recent commercial outlays. While this is in all likelihood nothing too concerning – Venus can raise worry to an art form when she’s in Virgo. You may just have to wait until she gets into Libra in September. This could be the perfect time to begin some kind of health regime – well, you do have a sweet tooth, don’t you? Relationships of all kinds will be in your face through October and may require you to make some choices in the people you fill your life with. Or you could meet someone new – maybe during some kind of training program or higher studies undertaken to boost your career.

During November and December, Venus is in Capricorn and Aquarius, two signs that will focus you on your career and further personal development. This will help you to put in steps to make some very profound changes in your inner life – the little things that used to take up your time will no longer seem important. There is a strong sense that your life is gently changing track and opening you up to a whole new way of relating to life and yourself.

Once the excitement of the New Year is over you may find that your social circle is being filled with new people who are here to stay.  You can begin to look to the future and focus on your long term goals, for your relationships, career and financial security.

Please note that this year is a Leap year, which means that a day has been added to the calendar. So, you may notice that the beginning and end dates in some cases are a day earlier than usual.

This month we have a Blue Moon – during the 30 days of Taurus there will be two Full Moons in Scorpio, one on the first degree and the other on the last degree of Scorpio. This treats us to a double dose of whatever the Full Moon in Scorpio symbolises for each of the signs. It is not as unusual as the saying “Once in a Blue Moon” suggests – in fact every two to three years we have 13 Full Moons instead of twelve. It is this thirteenth that is called a Blue Moon. It doesn’t seem to have any traditional basis as far as I can see; the term was first used in the late 1940s to describe this thirteenth Full Moon.

Aries: 21st March – 20th April: The Full Moon at the beginning of Taurus on 20th April is going to really focus you on your shared finances. In your usual lively style you will get to it and sort it out super fast. Then the second Full Moon will insist that you look at all the small print you overlooked the first time – and sort that out too! The real choices you have to make this month are between what you want to do with your own resources and how much you are prepared to share with those nearest and dearest to you. This could be a real life lesson for you in the art of conciliation and finding a balance between the deeper needs of someone close to you and your own.

Taurus: 19th April – 20th May – see above.

Gemini: 20th May – 20th June: This double Full Moon period is going to slow your energies down somewhat, so that instead of nipping and zipping where ever the spirit moves you, you will become more cautious and willing to plan ahead for a change. You could take up a new physical regime in readiness for the summer months ahead. Avoid getting into gossip around the water cooler this month as someone may repeat your words to the last person you would wish to hear them. Geminis are famous for those little indiscretions – and the Full Moons are giving you plenty of opportunities to learn some tact and diplomacy.

Cancer: 21st June – 22nd July: With Mars continuing in your sign for the next couple of weeks, you will still feel energised and willing to take on anything that is asked of you. This month’s two Full Moons falling in your house of creativity and children could ensure that your innate nurturing skills are tested to the limit this month. The smallest members in your family could demand more from you than may wish to give, which could mean that your own projects have to fall by the wayside for a few weeks. Partners may not be as willing to fall in and give you a hand, either – so a month of learning to be flexible and juggle many plates in the air is on the cards for you.

Leo: 22nd July – 22nd August: These two Full Moons are busily leaning across the domestic and career axis on your Solar chart. This suggests that whatever you wish to do in your professional life will have to be sidelined for the demands of your domestic situation. For example, you may have to be the one staying at home to wait for a delivery and as a consequence have to miss an important meeting at work. You may find that it offers you the perfect opportunity to shift some of the paperwork you could never get through while in the office. Family members, like elderly parents or grandparents may also make demands on your time.

Virgo: 22nd August – 22nd September: This month’s two Full Moons emphasise the mental axis on your Solar chart. This means that you should use your innate gifts for attending to the finest details on every piece of paperwork you have to sign. You may also be required to make many small journeys that you’d really rather not. Your in-laws could also be demanding of you this month which could make you to accept that you and they are very different and that’s OK – you have the ability to say how much time you are prepared to give them without becoming an absolute slave to their needs. This could be a month that really tests your resolve with relationship to them.

Libra: 22nd September – 23rd October: This month’s two Full Moons in Scorpio are really going to help you learn about the famous Libran need for balance in spades. You may find that a long forgotten bill finally arrives and you have to balance your present finances to accommodate paying it. This means choosing between honouring the debt or buying yourself that little number you saw in the shop window a couple of days ago. You may also find that your brilliant skills in diplomacy are much needed in the office to placate two warring work mates. This could lift your professional status a few notches and improve your prospects when promotion comes around.

Scorpio 23rd October – 21st November: This month’s two Full Moons in your solar first house really lay relationships on the line for you. You are being sorely tested to avoid confrontations with those closest to you and learn how to compromise with them. Not easy for you as they expect you to yield to their demands and take little notice of what it is that you may wish to do. However, if you can bite your tongue and use diplomacy this is an excellent period for you to notch up a few favours from them in return, later on in the year. The Universe seems to be leaning on you hard, but remember, the planets are NEVER out to get you – there will be a gift coming from this.

Sagittarius 21st November – 21st December: I know you would rather keep your mind on higher things or spend your time mapping out your next grand tour – but these two Scorpio Full Moons really pressure you where you most feel uncomfortable. You may find that people have been less than straightforward with you and your disappointment takes you by surprise. A change in your working routine could move you away from this area of stress and give you the space you need to plan your future. You need to maintain your open mindedness in your working environment as some of your colleagues may behave badly and expect you to take sides. Best to keep your head down and just get on with the tasks in front of you until it all passes.

Capricorn 21st December -19th January: Friendships are being focused on by this month’s two Scorpio Full Moons. You may find that friends make demands that test your willingness to maintain your relationship with them. You are a cool customer and are well able to retain a clear head when all around you is going pear shaped, and not get pulled in to other people’s dramas. Capricorn’s gift is that you are able to see the bigger picture and offer real down-to-earth advice that can make the difference between success and failure for them. They will appreciate it and you could find your social and romantic life expanding as a result.

Aquarius 20th January – 19th February: The two Full Moons in Scorpio this month really pull you between keeping your nearest and dearest happy and yourself in the spotlight in your career. Notoriously detached on the one hand and warm hearted on the other, you are the perfect person to have around in a crisis. However, when the crisis is in your face, you may find that you have to call on those closest to you to help out, which may create more of a struggle than you could have imagined. This is the perfect time to step back and uncouple yourself from everyone around you and learn to be self-reliant for a change. A great lesson for you from the Universe.

Pisces 19th February – 20th March: the two Scorpio Full Moons this month play across your spiritual axis and offer you many opportunities to explore new philosophical ideas. Some of these may have a lot to do with deepening your understanding of yourself as well as others, which has to be a real gift for you. A love affair may be the route towards an upsurge in your creativity, which may surprise you with its intensity. It is important to remember that it is YOUR creative voice that is being awakened at this time, the other person or situation is simply acting as your muse – and there are traditionally nine muses for you to keep choosing from!
