Real Time Articles for  today and tomorrow
This is the beginning of a new set of articles on Astrological matters on a more or less weekly basis. I have been off piste for the last few years for personal reasons – and now I’m back! Ready to bring you astrological insights and wisdom.
The New Kid on the Block is the comet NeoWise –  New Wisdom, we might think – visible through to the end of July and possibly part of August. It is amazing and awesome to behold – visible to all  in the Northern Hemisphere – swinging like a double tailed headlight across the night skies. It is passing through the Great Bear constellation (Ursa Major) and dropping into the arms of the Plough at its bottom edge. This is in the Northern skies so look towards Iceland- and who knows we may even see the Northern Lights.

There is a touch of Gemini energy within this comet – it has two tails, one blue the other white – so it’s a super communicator. Also at its Perihelion, meaning closest point to the Sun, it is at 14 degrees of Cancer, which is where we find the Persian Royal Star, Sirius, the Dog Star. This adds loyalty, love of family, tribe and nation to the signature of the comet. Put together, we could come up with the words “Call your Mum – she hasn’t seen you for months!!” I jest, but we are all missing our nearest and dearest during this time and hey presto! the comet flies into our consciousness with the themes of family and communication.
As this is a comet from beyond the Solar System, it will be talking to all conscious beings on the Earth – which could also be interpreted as marking the fact that we are all in this together – as the human family rather than little clans, tribes and nations. This comet is a one-off  because it has an orbit of 6,800 years,  so we can’t gain anything from its previous visits to alert us as to possible effects of its energies on our lives this time around.  We just have to gather our ideas as the symbols are offered to us. However, we have to take into account the times in which we live right now – with Covid-19, populations in lockdown, businesses collapsing, deep recessions predicted, for starters – and who knows what else.?
So when a bolt out of the blue, like the astonishing NeoWise,  arrives from a far distant galaxy, we have to wonder at its timing and what it’s trying to communicate to us. Comets used to be seen by ancient Astrologers as bringers of messages from the depths of the Universe, from beyond the known boundaries of our Solar System. So they have an otherworldly atmosphere about them. They have generally been associated with changes in climate, governments or royalty, and sometimes even plagues. However, when I look back at previous sightings of other  comets this may not hold up.  What does seem to hold up is the idea of them bringing messages.

There are many comets out there, but not all are stable enough to hang around once they come close to our Solar System. The two most recent in this century have ended up either fading into the Sun as in 2011; or  the so-called “Comet of the Century”, ISON, which broke apart in 2013 and its pieces drifted off. Whether this newly sighted comet will stay the course is debatable, but right now it seems to be.
The comet that most people will know is Halley’s Comet which visits us every 75/6 years. In the last century it appeared in 1911 and 1986 and will be next seen in 2061. I have been reading some of the historical events around Halley’s comet and they seem to suggest that , like most comets, it has always signalled strange weather patterns  on Earth, deaths of political leaders, etc.  Also in antiquity there were regular visits by many different comets so climate change, for example, seemed to be a way of life around 300-400 BC – and I guess, the link was made that has stuck through until now.
This new kid on the block is a one-off for us because it has an orbit of 6,800 years,  so we can’t glean anything from its previous visits to alert us as to any possible effects on our lives now.  The last time it visited us was 4,500 BC which was the end of the Stone Age and the beginning of working with metal rather than stone and wood – out of which came Iron and  Bronze for longer lasting tools and weaponry.
And it won’t have escaped your notice that the link between comets and plagues may still be valid due to the time of its arrival at the beginning of the Global Lockdown. In China, comet are known as “Broom Stars” and “Swords of Wisdom” suggesting that they can sweep away the dirt and corruption, cutting away insular thinking in governments, institutions and nations. The name NeoWise actually means new wisdom. So let’s just hope, eh?
So – the first sighting on: Friday, 27th March 2020 17:07 London, UK, gives us a chart that we can read.  We can see that babies born around the time of NeoWise will be the ones who have the opportunity to put this wisdom into effect and make a clean sweep of all the corruption in their world, for their children and grandchildren. Sadly I can’t get the chart to go onto my page right now – so sorry about that. However, Virgo rises on the Eastern horizon,  indicating a good clean sweep.  The Moon’s Nodes (eclipse points) are in Cancer/Capricorn indicating that family, closeness and support from the human collective will win over the corporate, financial structures that have held us all in wage slavery since the 18th Century.
Mercury, the ruler of the Ascendant is in Pisces with Neptune, the mystical planet. This could begin a process of scientific recognition that our minds exist on dimensions other than the purely physical. I know it’s already started, but it’s not yet in the public domain – so we could see new doors of perception opening.   This may have huge effects on our ideas of reality, separateness and the meaning of life, for example. Let’s just see….

Coming up: As the Moon Nodes have moved backwards over the last couple of weeks from Cancer/Capricorn into Gemini/Sagittarius an article on these will follow.
