With Friday’s Total Solar Eclipse it’s quite a momentous birthday that will have significance for Leos through the next 6-12 months. It’s a funny thing the way the planets whizz around the Zodiac, sometimes regularly and predictably and sometimes quite erratically. This eclipse is more on the erratic side of things, and I’ll explain more below.

Usually, we can trace an Eclipse on the same degree of the Zodiac every 19 years – for Saros Cycle fans, this is something Zodiacal rather than Nodal. However, occasionally we get a rogue eclipse that doesn’t fit that particular pattern – a little Cosmic Joke, perhaps, who knows? And there’s probably a technical explanation that I once knew and have since forgotten – sorry about that, but forgetting things happens as we get older!!

Eclipses tend to repeat in the same sign for about eleven and a half months – so we usually get two hits in the same sign over a year. Not this time, however – the next one in July 2009 falls in Cancer. So this is a one off, folks, peculiar to Leo on 1st August – no wonder the Chinese are claiming it as their very own Olympic Eclipse! Incidentally, the shadow cast across the Earth by the Moon covering the Sun, falls across Northern Russia and China, where it terminates. This is how we can often predict earthquakes and political disturbances for a nation by tracing the Eclipse’s shadow and seeing which nations it covers. I feel another article coming up – later, I promise!

An eclipse usually leaves its effects over a period of about 6-12 months, over which time many of the predictions are likely to pan out – things like babies being born, older people leaving, creative ventures being launched, money being made and even lost. A time of rich pickings. An eclipse effects us all no matter which sign it falls in and we will respond to it differently each according to our birth signs.

So Leo here we go:

An eclipse in your first Solar House indicates major shifts in your entire life path. It is a period where life is all about you – your goals, your desires and your hopes and wishes for your future. So all the things that the first house is associated with will be up for grabs. It’s all about your creativity and your ability to clean out the things you want to change/get rid of, in order to create a new life for yourself during this period, for example, your appearance – new hair do or makeover, new health regime, new relationships are all highlighted. Also, house moves, or house makeovers; career – new job or promotion; business and personal relationships, partners.

During August this may be a quiet period before the storm, so that you wonder what all the fuss is about. However, sometimes it can all take until the following February when the Aquarius Eclipse picks up yours from across the Zodiacal divide and then you are motoring. In fact, it can all happen so fast that you are running to catch up with yourself!

All of the above may already be in your mind now so that you may have an idea how you want things in your life to be – and there are still likely to be surprises.

The eclipse is also closely aligned with Mercury, ruler of your Solar 2nd and 11th houses. this indicates that the changes are also likely to include unearthing some of your innate talents and gifts that you may begin to see differently and want to include into your everyday life in some way. You may even be willing to take a change in your financial life to enable yourself to do this or even find these talents actually earn you money. Your dreams and hopes for a very different way of life may also arise within you. You may find that you would like to dramatically change your lifestyle to better express yourself and embrace some of your new ideas – both political and social, which you may encounter and develop through the new people you meet.

Through September the Sun is in your 2nd house of gifts, talents and finances. This house is emphasised by the eclipse so will bring all these matters to the fore for you. Are you using your gifts to earn your living – if not why not – what can you do to bring about ways to change that? By the end of the month and into October, there’s a lot of paperwork flying around, many small journeys to make, interactions within your neighbourhood, business transactions and demanding siblings that could result in heated discussions until one of you backs off and turns down the heat.

November and December are likely to be taken up with the Christmas rush, family and social engagements. However, at the back of your mind are some of the thoughts that came up during August. Although this may not be the right time to be getting into them, they still nudge you now and again. Overall, this is a real busy and, in some ways, highly energised time that makes this period more intense than previous Christmases.

Once the dust settles, things may seem to go quiet for a few weeks, but by end of January, Jupiter enters your house of relationships. This may bring up a strong desire to get out and about more socially, especially as it triggers the August eclipse point. This could be when you begin to notice the effects of the eclipse, particularly towards the end of the month. And life begins to change from the outside in – through the actions of others. Especially in your everyday work life – where you were previously feeling that you were stuck, the energy now begins to gather momentum and things start moving forward.

February/March/April are continuing along in this same vein – then in May you seriously start to wonder if your career is giving you what you want. You may even have a better offer from elsewhere. You need to be absolutely sure that you are making a good decision during this time, ticking off all your boxes before leaping into the possible unknown. With Saturn the Organiser in your house of finances, facing off Uranus the Revolutionary in your house of shared resources, mortgages, etc, your whole financial situation is taking up a lot of mental and emotional energy these days – don’t get sucked into it. Do what you need to do for yourself and move on. Use the situation to really turn your life around for the better.

Through June/July, you are looking ahead in a more enthusiastic light – lots of optimism for you future. The energy of the eclipse is finally moving off!
