Just as the ancient Chinese curse suggested, we are living in interesting times – all of us – and that includes you, me, the people next door, the Prime Minister, the US President, and the person who empties our garbage bins – or ‘buckets’ as they are called here in Fife, where I am right now.
And the way we respond to what’s going on in the world comes out of who we are. So, if we are filled with dread by the reports of doom and gloom in the various news media, then we need to change the dread into some other feeling that can enable rather than disable us.
We have an old maxim that the leopard cannot change its spots – and maybe it can’t because it has a leopard’s consciousness that keeps it camouflaged in the jungle in order to survive. We humans are different in that we have another kind of consciousness, however, the above maxim is repeatedly churned out and it keeps us believing it. This in fact means that most people have no idea that they can actually change anything about their lives, least of all themselves – and in fact, don’t even realise that there exists a self to change. I think that’s where the panic can set in – if we feel cut off from ourselves – then how can we be effective?
The show that’s keeping us all enthralled on our screens and in the newspapers may not be as serious as they try make out. I know that many people feel they have less money right now and fewer options than we thought we had last year – however, unless we’re living in a war zone, no one’s dying and there are no bombs falling from the sky attempting to annihilate us.
So, the question has to be – what do we want? And how can we make it happen?
This is being bandied about in all the “Self help” media at the moment – and I think that while these are fair questions to ask, they may also miss the point.
What’s more to the point is to ask – what is the meaning of my life? Why do I feel so ineffective? And how can I stop feeling as if I’m on that hamster wheel just going round and round until I fall off it?
What lies behind is a sense that we are cut off from something wonderful – like the child in the fairy tale watching the party going on in the rich house while standing barefoot in the snow outside. And that ‘something wonderful’ is our connection to a deeper and better part of ourselves. The moment we truly realise that we have more about us than just the surface skin covered body, thoughts that keep us in a downward spiral and feelings that respond negatively to whatever what’s going on around us – then we can enter the big house and join the party.
Fairy stories are wonderful because they point us to deeper truths about life – and that means deeper truths about ourselves. They are really not meant for children – children know that they are connected to something more meaningful than the hamster wheel – they are meant for us who have forgotten how we felt as children. and if our world view is of the hamster wheel, then the inevitable end of that is – well, as a life plan it doesn’t offer much hope.
If we are attempting to use the Law of Attraction from the above mind set, then why are we surprised that ‘it’s not working’ for us? Because it is so important to understand the LoA is always working, never fails, never stops, always brings us what we think about about moment to moment – and the only way to experience good results is to get the truth of this and change our attracting habits.
Once we accept that we can change our attracting habits then we can begin to climb out of the gloom and doom into something akin to simple, ordinary, everyday happiness.
So it’s time to start filling our lives with wonder and mystery again. As Quantum Physicist Fred Alan Wolf said “It’s time to be in the mystery, not in the know.”
And one way to start is by realising that we are living on a planet, Earth, that is spinning on its axis once every 24 hours, and is in a holding pattern with 8 or 9 other planets and a few million asteroids all orbiting around the Sun; at the same time as our Solar System is spinning around the Galactic Centre in its own rhythm quite beyond our understanding.
So each time we see a photograph of the Earth from outer space, we can now see it as the best group photo ever, because we’re all on it. How wonderful is that?
If we can be aware of the miracle that we don’t fly off into space in the spin around the days and the years of the Earth – then we can become aware also of the inner miracle of our own being that is made up of millions of tiny Suns and planets, which are our cells that make up our bodies, each cell having a different form, yet communicating with each other moment to moment. And all held together by what? And animated by what?
All those cells live in an environment that we call “myself”, while we ourselves live in an environment that we call “life”.
So, once we understand the magnitude of this and the importance of being alive, then we can start to make the connection with that which animates us – our droplet of God, our divinity.
And most of us don’t even know that we have within ourselves such a thing as a “divine spark” – although, actually, I think we do know, but we feel so cut off from it by our conditioning, that we live our lives in “quiet desperation, taking our songs to the grave.” Which is why we over indulge our physical senses rather than enlivening our mystical senses. We keep ourselves dull and disconnected because no one told us anything better.
When clients contact me for either mentoring or an astrology reading, the first thing I tell them is that the Universe is NEVER out to get them and any distress they are feeling comes from their resistance to the prompting of their life path to make those changes that are begging to be made right now in their lives. And that’s a big deal for most people – to make a change that often challenges their comfort zone.
Just reading this article will hopefully challenge a comfort zone or two and have many asking “how can I reconnect with my life path and the reason why I am here on Earth?”
Now I need to explain a little exactly what Astrology can offer that will help in finding an answer to the above question – what it is and what it is not. While we astrologers ourselves are guilty of playing along with the idea that astrology belongs on the entertainment pages of the tabloid newspapers – and is only for girls anyway – the fact is that we are doing it and ourselves a disservice. And I must say that it is mostly women who feel that there is “something” in astrology, just as they can be more in touch with their own spirituality than men.
The Lunar cycles directly cause the oceans of the Earth to ebb and flow and the light of the Sun triggers growth in plants and animals alike. When the Sun shines on our faces we can feel truly alive and full of energy. We may be forgiven for asking isn’t this Astronomy? But, the moment we feel a reaction to Sunlight or the absence of it, we are in the realms of Astrology.
Astrology is not entertainment, but the Mother of all Sciences – the most ancient and powerful – so powerful in fact, that it had to be quashed by the church. However, luckily for the Western world at least, many monks and priests were themselves astrologers, who kept the whole thing alive for us. Not a lot of people know that.
Each planet represents a different life function and purpose within us by its position on the map calculated from the moment of our birth; each planet that is orbiting our birth planets in real time can give us insight into new possibilities. This is not prediction – any more that a railway timetable is – although it may be more accurate! This Mother of all Sciences can reveal to us all manner of inner truths about ourselves, our life paths, our reason for being in this life and where we are heading in our next life. It offers a world view where we can uncover our greatest gifts and move towards our highest objectives and maybe even glimpse the wheels of the universe operating through us.
It shows us where we are unique, why we attract the same people and why we repeat certain patterns that seem to prevent us moving forward. Once we know all these things and many more about ourselves – then we can begin to make choices based on an understanding of who we really are. We can literally change our world view and expand our sense of place in it.
My mentoring work is more one on one weekly work that keeps the birth chart reading alive and enables my clients to begin to assimilate their connections with their inner being.
As we recognise and accept that we really are here on Earth for more than just making up the numbers and getting the jobs done that need doing – then we can begin to breathe with confidence and reconnect with our true selves.
Then we can be in tune with a more positive outcome from the Law of Attraction – which may not be in terms of huge financial wealth, flash cars or palatial dwellings – but in terms of knowing that our lives have meaning, that we are never alone and that we are part of a huge mystery that is unfolding everyday in front of our very eyes.
Once we can do that – then we can create a new reality – and maybe, just maybe, we can watch the world around us change for the better, too.
