The threatened Mars/Saturn conjunction in Sagittarius is moving ever closer. If the planets are intelligences, as I believe them to be, then they have been preparing for this meeting since Mars went direct in Scorpio end of June. In other words, they know more than we do. And it has been intensifying since Mars left Scorpio and entered Sagittarius on the evening (GMT) of 2nd August.
Due to Mars moving slowly since his recent change of direction and Saturn being stationary this is a fairly long conjunction that will take us through the first week of September. This is a strong meet up between the two traditionally named “Malefics” – meaning that they have a tendency to cause havoc singly never mind in a conjunction like this one!
I have noticed that they tend to cause strikes in the UK, particularly of transport, as they fall in that particular sector on the 1801 UK chart. And right now we are mired in railway strikes and passenger traumas over the last couple of months. And as I write this it seems to be spreading over the whole country.
On the US the conjunction is bang on the Ascendant of the Independence chart, so the fight between Clinton and Trump will get ever dirtier, at least for the next few weeks. This could frighten their citizens into asking what is happening to old fashioned politics and make them feel powerless.
So how do they each function, I hear you ask?
Mars, the action planet is fiery in nature with lots of get up and go – the soldier ruling Aries and the strategist ruling Scorpio. He loathes delays and bargaining – he just wants to move along unimpeded. However according to the Ancients, he got in the way of social harmony and peace. His slow backward and forward motion in both Scorpio and Sagittarius began on 2nd January and won’t finish until end September, when he then enters Capricorn where he is exalted (best place) for 6 weeks.
Saturn, on the other hand, represents walls, blockages, structures, duty, hard work and lethargy. While Mars is strong in a fire sign like Sagittarius, Saturn is deeply uncomfortable there. The limiting factor of Saturn is uneasy with the expansive nature of Sagittarius. These two planets do not regard each other well – so putting the two together – at their worst we get blocked action, push me pull you, frustration and bullying. At their best they can represent focused energy, well-planned action, slowly unfolding projects and enduring competition. Great for the Olympics!
On a personal level, these energies can bring great accomplishments – it’s on the collective level that we will see the more tricky side of this combination. So various social groups may well feel hard done by during this period of time, especially around 1st September when the Annular Total Solar Eclipse picks up a hard (90 degree) aspect to the point of conjunction. So we have a while to go with this one.
And not even Jupiter – the ruler of Sagittarius – can offer any solace because it is in Virgo right now, so is weakly placed there. This combination Mars/Saturn is in hard relationship with neptune – for more on Saturn Neptune see my blog of 19th June 2016.
I think we are entering a huge period of change -I have been watching, waiting and writing about this over the last few years and wonder if we’re now on the brink of something big for Western culture.
