Article: Pluto in Capricorn 2008 – 2023

When a planet as powerful and as slow moving as Pluto enters a new sign, the world notices – not just individuals but everybody. Look how Pluto has effected the Sagittarian values of religion, travel and international laws through the period 1995 – 2008. Resulting in the rise of religious fundamentalism, the power of ideologies, the global spread of information, a fear of “the foreigner in our midst” and much, much more.

Last month, Pluto dipped his toe in Capricorn and will stay for about another 4 months – he will begin his true sojourn there in late November and then will remain for 15 years.

The last time Pluto was in Capricorn brought huge changes in the way we lived. For example, during his first year there in 1516 Martin Luther began his challenges to the established church, which resulted in the Reformation. The result of this was the rise in Calvinism and the worshipping of that good old Capricornian value – hard work as the route to God.

We also saw the beginning of European colonisation of South America. So watch that part of the world for major political shifts over the next 17 years.

Two hundred and fifty years later in 1762, Pluto once again arrived at Capricorn’s door and things once again began to shift – we had the French and American Revolutions and the development of technology. James Watt’s invention of the steam engine heralded the dawning of the Industrial Revolution and more HARD WORK, including the massive development of slavery.  There were many other events during those times – fill in your own blanks.

I am particularly interested in the study of the link between Zodiacal degrees and historic events. This means that no matter which slow moving planet sits on a particular degree
(for the uninitiated there are 360 degrees in the Zodiac) it seems that there is an echo contained within it of specific historic events that replay in current events. This idea has huge implications for the ideas of reincarnation, for example.

However, it is the first degree of Capricorn that interests me right now. It was in 1989/90 that both Saturn and Uranus sat at 1 Capricorn, bringing down the Berlin Wall and kick starting the Bosnian conflict. At this weekend of writing, with Pluto on the same degree, we see in the news that Kosovo is claiming independence – finally transforming the lives of the people of that region. However, it threatens the stability of the Balkan region once again. When Pluto goes over that degree again in December 2008, let’s see if there are further repercussions there.

The issue of HARD WORK (i.e. modern slavery) will once again raise its head as will the question of how to put Africa back together again after the Western cultures devastated it during Pluto’s last Capricorn cycle. Also, major global corporations will gain more and more power over individuals. The British Royal Family will go through major shifts also – maybe not surviving as an entity.

I know this stuff doesn’t sound a barrel of laughs, it really is grown-up Astrology and has nothing to do with Sun signs. So, that’s my take on how things may pan out over the next 15 years.

Again, watch this space.
