In my quest to find the answers to the deepest questions that Astrology poses for me, I listen out for people who are the “movers and shakers” of their generation as I feel that they may hold a key to some of these questions. Recently I have been particularly interested in those babies born in 1952, as I have a number of clients and friends from that year.
This morning on BBC Radio Four there was an interview with Dame Wendy Hall, professor of computer science working in multimedia and hypermedia. Her team invented the Microcosm hypermedia system just before the World Wide Web existed – around 1989/90.
This made me sit up and wonder why her? and why then? because 1989/90 presented an unusual time frame as it was the coming together and blending of three important planetary energies during that year. These were Saturn/Uranus/Neptune – each of them being implicated in the total shift of our cognitive abilities through the development of the new technologies. It is worth noting that these three planets had last come together in 1307, when other major shifts were occurring across Europe, not least the crowning of Robert the Bruce, here in the Kingdom of Fife, where I live right now.
This triple conjunction was placed in the early degrees of Capricorn (where Pluto is now sitting). Saturn moved off leaving Uranus and Neptune to spend a few more years in each other’s company further developing the ideas that have led us to this total change in our society. It is useful to note that while Saturn represents the business end of any process, Uranus is associated with ideas, genius, technology and rapid changes, while Neptune represents transcending personal boundaries – the perfect energetic setup for the development of the World Wide Web.
Why Wendy Hall? I wondered. I discovered via Wikipedia that she was born in 1952, the year that Uranus in Cancer was in hard (90 degrees) aspect to both Saturn and Neptune in Libra, so she was born with this energy feeding into her psyche. So the game was on for those born in 1952 to be switched on to something during 1989/90 when the same three planets met in Capricorn. Contrary to my expectation that it would be her natal Sun that was impacted on, it was in fact her Moon in Capricorn that sat on the vital degrees of the triple conjunction. I also noticed that the Moon is similarly placed in Capricorn on Tim Berners-Lee’s birth chart also, so he would have picked up the conjunction at the same time. Although these two birth dates are in the public domain, I cannot comment further on their charts.
This is how astrology seems to work on the level of events – there is a set-up phase, ie birth; then life goes on until one day the promise of that initial phase is activated by certain planets as they move across our skies and trigger off shifts and changes for us all. How we react is up to us – our personal choice.
Such changes can come as a shock for some, if they are unaware of what their promise or purpose in life may be – however, the shock itself can set up a whole new and more fulfilling life than previously. For others who feel that “something” is going on in their lives (and are asking why hasn’t it happened yet?) these triggers can bring a sense of release that frees them to get on with living lives filled with purpose and meaning.
On a collective level, such massive energy combinations can also cause total disruption – it was during the period of the Uranus/Neptune in the 90s that the war in Eastern Europe happened. In the early 50s the Korean War was being fought. I suspect that it is such powerful disruptive energy focusing on the earth that can make populations react negatively and rage wars against each other, thus acting as a blowhole or energy release – and yet, war is not the inevitable outcome, if governments can proceed with caution and insight. However, so far, they haven’t seemed able to do that.
And of course, it’s not just those born in 1952 who responded in the early 90s to these planets. What about the babies born then who are now in their early twenties and who carry the seed of this energy within their beings? Many of them comprise the Indigo Generation of children who seem to process information and thought very differently from the rest of the world. all these young people are interesting, particularly now as both Uranus and Pluto will impact their lives over the next few years, awakening them to a sense of purpose to achieve something meaningful, both on a world stage but also personally. Many of them will have children around now who will also carry the same “psychogene” in their energy field thus passing the baton on to further generations.
The other question is about the speed of the recent changes. When we look back over human development, we can see how life remained the same for thousands of years without anything major going on. Time seemed to move extremely slowly. Even in the Tudor and Elizabethan times, life was slow. Time only really began to pick up apace when Uranus was discovered in 1784, then Neptune in 1846, and Pluto in 1930. Now many people feel as if everything is moving too fast for them to keep up.
Of course, the deeper question that everyone is asking now is: what is my life purpose? Am I living it? And if not – how can I?
As an astrologer I have to say that we may not have just one purpose, just as we may not have one child, marriage, career, or much else. Even our bodies aren’t the same as they were 7 years ago due to the death/rebirth cycles of our cells. We may have a purpose for now, and then life (in the guise of the planets) intervenes and we may change our purpose overnight in response. If you’re alive, then you’re living your purpose. I don’t think there’s any one judging whether we get it right or not. I think that’s an old hangover from childhood – a superego parental figure that can keep us tied to a grindstone for fear of getting it wrong. However, it is linked to the past, not the present or the future.
We will all have times in our lives where the planets challenge us to let go, hold on, fall in love, fall out of love, change our jobs or stay put. Equally we will all have those times when nothing much happens and we can take a rest, survey were we are right now and thank God/Universe/Source for it. This will enable us to gain the strength for the next wave of challenges – it’s like this until the last braincell dies. Don’t you just love being human?
